World Travel Market London

As you may know some of the ambassadors were selected to a second mission after Iceland.

One ambassador of each island were selected to represent the Canary Islands in the World Travel Market in London, which is one of the most important tourism fairs in the world.

After a flight to Madrid from the different islands all the ambassadors met in Barajas airport and we started our trip to London.

We arrived to London and we had dinner and we talked about how the Iceland mission chages our lifes and all the friends we made on the way. after a short visit to the London downtown we came back soon to the hotel to stay fresh for the mission.

So the mission started about ten in the morning in the ExCel centre and by that time we started to work showing the visitors our new tool of information. This new system works with a tactile digital screen and show the visitor all the information of the four brands of the Canary Islands (Family Welcome, Wellnes Delight, Water Sports and Volcanic Experience) with videos and pictures in a easy way.

The visitors were surprised that we were in the fair working as volunteers, we explain to them our mission on Iceland and that we do that for free because we love our islands and our purpose it´s share our fortune with all the visitors who wants to come to the Canary Islands.

London has been the second mission but we don´t know when will be the next mission and who will be the chosen one to come but we are ready to share our fortune in the whole world whenever is necessary.

And remember... Say no to Winter Blues and come to the Canary Islands!

World Travel Market de Londres. Entrevista Manuel Luque

We would like to share with you the interview of Manuel Luque, canarian ambassador at Wordl Travel Market.

1. What do you think of the World Travel Market?

The best show I've ever attended. It's amazing how well organized this and the number of people worldwide who come to this event.

2. What tasks you performed at the fair?

My task was mainly to capture people to our stand and explain the hallmarks of quality and clarify questions about our islands.

3. How about welcoming people at the booth of canary islands? Did you leave satisfied and convinced?

Almost everyone talked about our stand. Not only for its color and its staging, with dancing and shows every so often, if not by the technology used to provide information to stakeholders. There touchscreens with pictures and videos of the places belonging to the quality marks. So with two clicks you could know which of the 7 islands could go diving or climbing, for example.

4. What people were talking about as this new proposal from the Canary Islands?

Many of them did not understand, but when it captured were very impressed. I think it had a very good acceptance.

5. On a personal level, you think about the attendance at this important fair Canary and that impact may have to think long term for our islands.

I really think it is vital that the Canaries were there, one of the most important events of the world for tourism is concerned. And not only that if everyone and I mean all the countries represented at the fair, spoke positively of us. As for how long term will also depend partly on the journalistic and political support. I also believe that attracting more tourists and not only that, what is more important, quality tourists.

CANARY ISLAND SCOOP BEST WTM STAND AWARD

The Canary Islands' stand at the World Travel Market in London has won the top prize. The massive stand beat off competition from those built by exotic destinations for one of the holiday industry's biggest events, which runs until tomorrow.
Our ambassadors were there to represent our islands.

OUR MISSION IN ICELANDISLANDIA, BY NURIA GUTIERREZ

There are many who criticize what we have done in Iceland. I just want to explain what the mission is about and how was the experience of becoming one of the 100 Ambassadors of the Canary Islands. We were chosen from a group of 2000 people who wanted to be a part of the mission. It was quite easy. You only had to register in this site: www.compartetufortuna.com and write some recommendations about some interesting places in the Canary Islands which could not be found in a simple tourist´s guide.
All this initiative was made by the Government of the Canaries. It is a new marketing strategy known as “person-to-person”. It is a way of promotion that was never made before. In Iceland we had to look for people, and make castings for those who wanted to come to the Canaries for a week. That is, we had to choose a hundred of Icelanders who could then inform other people about the things that the Canaries have to offer.
At first, they could not believe it. But we did a great job to show that it was true and that we were working hard to make this happen. The mission was better as expected. I am just very proud of it.
By the way, in two week´s time it is going to be celebrated a huge meeting for the Ambassadors and those who also wanted to participate and made the castings. Hope to see you all there.

ALMOST 400 ICELANDERS PRESENTED THEMSELVES TO REYKJAVIK CASTING

In just two days, more than 400 Icelanders presented themselves to the casting organized by the Canary Ambassadors in Reykjavik and we still have 1 day to continue interviewing people.

WORKING AND WORKING...

Within our actions of attracting people to the Canary Islands we visited companies, universities and businesses ... Then they say that we do not work!

KANARIEYJAR AMBASSADORS IN REYKLAVIK STREETS

It seemed that the temperature rose in Reykjavik. Yesterday was the first day of our mission on the streets of Iceland: convincing the Icelanders that the Canaries are their ideal destination: exciting, young, with a wide range of offers.... And that’s what we did. I think practically the 180,000 inhabitants of Iceland's capital were aware of our presence. Shouting "No Winter Blues!", dressed in orange jackets and even drums and whistles, we went through the whole city in 5 groups, to the universities, shopping malls, speaking to anyone passing by on the street ... the idea was to convince them that The Canary Islands are the place they have to visit. We had to transmit confidence, good vibes, freshness, friendliness.... In short, with our presence give them the essence of the islands, and I think we managed it!
At first they were amazed, which is normal if we consider how calm and quiet they are, but then we charmed them, gave them a brochure, told them why we were there and little by little we got them.
As a great attraction we invited them to the fiesta we are having today, where they could participate in a casting and the draw for 100 trips to the Islands. It’s sure that tonight will be memorable as well ...we will keep reporting!

NO WINTER BLUES, NO WINTER BLUES

The Icelanders are happy with our proposal and are backing us all the way. Already there are more than 500 people registered with VIP entries for the fiesta on Wednesday.

OPERATION NO WINTER BLUES. DESTINATION: ICELAND

Just a few minutes ago the destination was revealed to the first 100 Canary Ambassadors after days of uncertainty and guessing on the various destinations in northern Europe.
But ... Why Iceland?
Because Iceland, like the Canary Islands, is an island in the same meridian. They also share with us their volcanic origin, but mainly because like no one else they represent the cold north of Europe. Follow our adventure in Iceland here http://www.islascanariaslovesisland.com

WE GOT THE 100 AMBASSADORS AND THEIR FIRST IMPRESSIONS REPORTED IN PRESS

You can learn the names of the 100 Canarians who will act as ambassadors in an important mission in Northern Europe. In addition, we will tell you how the press reported their first impressions when they found out they had been selected. More information in www.nowinterblues.com

OPERATION NO WINTER BLUES

On September 28 we launched a recruitment campaign of Canary volunteers for an important mission: to take the best from the Canary Islands to the far north of Europe and help its inhabitants to fight the Winter Blues. Over 15,000 canaries were interested in becoming ambassadors and over 2,000 went to the castings. This is the diary of the 100 selected to become Canary Ambassadors of the Operation No Winter Blues.
